The click happens before the video does

The thumbnail is the ad for your video. Most people decide in about a second, scrolling a wall of competing images at the size of a postage stamp, whether it is a cooking channel, a tech review, or a gaming clip. A great edit does not matter if nobody clicks the frame in front of it.

AI image generation changes the math on that frame. Instead of paying a designer per thumbnail or fighting with layers in an editor, you describe what you want to an AI agent and it renders the image. Figgshield is the connector that lets the agent do it: an MCP server at https://api.figgshield.ai/mcp that plugs into the tools you already use.

That means you can go from an idea in a chat window to a finished 1280x720 image without leaving the conversation.

Generating a 16:9 thumbnail with Nano Banana 2

Figgshield generates images with Nano Banana 2, Google's image model. A YouTube thumbnail is 1280x720, which sits inside the 2K tier, so each render costs 8 credits. You only pay more if you ask for 4K, which is 16 credits and more than a thumbnail needs.

The workflow is a sentence, not a settings panel. Tell your agent the subject, the mood, the background, and where you want empty space for a title, and it returns the image on a private link.

  • The subject and expression, for example a shocked face lit from one side
  • A simple background that will not fight your title text
  • Room on the left or right for a three or four word headline
  • A bold color you want to dominate the frame

Prompts that survive being shrunk

The mistake most people make is prompting for a poster, not a thumbnail. Your image will be seen at roughly 320 pixels wide in a phone feed and smaller still in a sidebar. Detail that looks great at full size turns to mud there.

Ask for one clear subject, high contrast, and no more than a few elements. Faces with a strong expression read well small. Thin fonts, busy patterns, and tiny props disappear. If you plan to add text later, tell the agent to leave a clean area for it rather than baking words into the image, where they are hard to edit.

A quick test: shrink the render to the width of a real thumbnail and look at it from across the room. If you can still tell what the video is about, it works.

Put your own face in the frame

Channels grow on recognizable faces. You can send a photo of yourself as a reference image and ask the agent to build the thumbnail around it, matching the lighting and the scene you describe.

The reference photo is used in memory to generate the image and is never stored. The image it produces sits on a private link for 7 days and is then deleted, so nothing lingers on a server you do not control.

This is how you keep a consistent look across a series without reshooting a portrait for every episode.

Turn the winner into a short teaser

Once you have a thumbnail you like, you can animate it. Figgshield generates video with Kling 3 and a faster Kling 3 Turbo tier, and you can start a clip from an image you already made by passing its id. A five-second clip costs 35 credits.

A short loop of your thumbnail moving, a slow zoom, or a bit of motion in the background makes a good community post or a teaser on other platforms that point back to the video.

Because the still and the motion come from the same balance, you are not juggling two subscriptions to do it.

The numbers

One credit balance covers both images and video. Pricing is at cost, meaning we pass through what the models charge and do not mark them up. The only money Figgshield makes is on credits people buy and never spend, so we have no reason to inflate a render.

A $5 seven-day Pro trial comes with 150 credits, which is roughly 18 thumbnails at 8 credits each. There is no free tier. If it is not for you, cancel before day 7 and you pay nothing more.

It works with Claude on desktop and in Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and ChatGPT in Developer Mode on a paid plan, plus any other MCP agent. Top up on the credits page when you need more.
